For the year end edition there was only a few surprises. First was the sales for the Mustang and Camaro were down a decent amount on the year. Second the Altima out sold the Fusion by 45,000 units. How? Why would you buy the Altima over the Fusion? I just dont know why. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I was about to say how I'm not really fond of the Fusion's design, but then I noticed the Altima.

Non Jalops would buy the Altima over the Fusion because the Nissan has had a pretty solid history of good reliability, whereas the Fusion has had 3 recalls for engine fires (1.6 ecoboost) and numerous knocks against it for frustrating infotainment system. It also has a surprisingly small trunk for its class. Those little things make a difference in the minds of the masses who buy mid-sizers.

I usually look at the By The Numbers posts for one reason or another. I think there are still people that are put off by the Aston Martin-like maw of the new Fusion, the Altima has a safe (read: rather bland) design, and probably feel like Nissan (and other Japanese makes) still have better reliability/reputation.
That's my uneducated guess.

Nissan also sells a ton of Altimas to rental fleets. I believe Ford has been trying to get away from relying as much on fleet sales.
